Japanese firm Kabuchan International becomes partner of Le Diamant under its private fundraising campaign. The organization’s president, Mr. Takeya Kaburaki, travelled to Quebec City to announce that he was associated with the project in order to promote and encourage artistic and cultural exchanges between Quebec and Japan.
Deputy Premier, Minister responsible for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Lise Thériault; Quebec City’s mayor, Mr. Régis Labeaume; the General Delegate of Québec to Tokyo, Ms. Claire Deronzier; the President of BMO Financial Group, Quebec and one of the co-chairs of the campaign, Mr. L. Jacques Ménard; artistic director Robert Lepage; and representatives from the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications were on hand when Mr. Takeya Kaburaki announced this significant partnership.
“This association with Le Diamant attests to the strength and impact of Quebec culture abroad and confirms that art transcends borders. We are very proud of the support that Kabuchan International has provided to us and the trust they have put in us. Kabuchan International is a key, trail-blazing partner in making this project a reality. For us, this is a beautiful marriage of East and West,” said artistic director Mr. Robert Lepage.
“We are excited about and looking forward to the completion of Le Diamant. We are convinced that this multi-purpose performance space will be a vibrant arena where many artists can get opportunities, and at the same time present new culture and arts to the world. It will open a new history for Quebec, which is blessed with nature and rich cultural assets. We would like to express our sincere respect for the talent and passion of the great artist, Mr. Robert Lepage,” said Kabuchan International’s president, Mr. Takeya Kaburaki

This support stands as proof of the international interest that is being stirred by creator Robert Lepage and his innovative project Le Diamant,” declared Ms. Monique F. Leroux, President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group and co-chair of Le Diamant’s fundraising campaign.
“This investment from Kabuchan International is excellent news for the capital. Mr. Takeya Kaburaki, I would like to thank you for coming all this way to make the official announcement to the public. It is an honour for the city to welcome you. Your support for the dissemination of Quebec culture means that our unique character will be felt all the way to Japan,” concluded Quebec City’s mayor, Mr. Régis Labeaume.
The objective of the private fundraising campaign is $10M. The donation by Kabuchan International ($1M) is in addition to previously announced donations by Bell ($2M), BMO Financial Group ($1M) and Desjardins Group ($500K). Note that the Government of Quebec has agreed to contribute $30M, and the City of Québec, $7M.
Le Diamant would like to thank the Government of Quebec and the City of Québec for their precious involvement in making this large-scale project a reality.
